For most travellers, October to April is the best time to visit Saudi Arabia. Temperatures are comfortable in the desert, along the Red Sea and in the big cities, and you can spend most of the day outdoors.
Short answer: October to April
The main travel season runs from October to April. During these months daytime temperatures across most of the country make sightseeing, desert trips and hiking comfortable, while nights can be cool in the highlands and the desert.
Summer, from June to September, is very hot inland and humid along the coast. Travel is still possible, but activities should be planned for early morning and evening, with more indoor experiences in the programme.
Season by season
Winter (November–February)
This is high season. AlUla and Riyadh host many cultural events, the desert is pleasant to explore, and evenings are cool enough for a jacket. Popular hotels and guided experiences fill up early, especially around Christmas, New Year and winter holidays.
Spring (March–April)
Spring brings long days, greener landscapes in the Asir mountains and still-comfortable temperatures. It is a good time for multi-region itineraries.
Summer (May–September)
Inland areas get very hot. The Asir mountains in the south-west are an exception, with a milder climate and occasional mist and rain. The Red Sea still works for diving and snorkelling, but midday outdoor activity is best avoided.
Autumn (October)
October is a good shoulder month: the heat eases, prices are often lower than in December and January, and the most visited sites are quieter.

Ramadan and local holidays
During Ramadan opening hours change and many restaurants stay closed during daylight. It can be a rewarding cultural experience, but the itinerary needs to be planned accordingly. The dates shift by roughly eleven days each year.
How to choose your dates
- Combining several regions? Choose November to March.
- Focused on diving and beaches? The Red Sea works most of the year.
- Want fewer fellow travellers? Try October or late April.
- Travelling with children? Plan activities for morning and late afternoon in any season.
